Settembre 2014

Vinousmedia 2014 Antonio Galloni , 23 Settembre 2014

I was super-impressed with the wines I tasted at Duemani this year. Proprietors Luca D'Attoma and Elena Celli appear to be unstoppable forces here. The 2011s are fabulous, but the 2012s, which I tasted from barrel, are shaping up to be even better. Over the last few years, D'Attoma and Celli have begun to work more with cement and have introduced whole clusters, both of which seem to give the wines more layers of expression. The Duemani wines stand out for their extraordinary purity. What else is left to say?

Duemani, Duemani 2011

Drinking Window 2017-2026

Black stone fruits, smoke, tobacco, leather and grilled herbs all flesh out in the 2011 Duemani, the estate's top Cabernet Franc. All the elements come together effortlessly in the glass. The 2011 is extroverted and showy, yet it retains plenty of varietal nuance and definition. The deeply spiced, aromatic finish is a thing of beauty.

Duemani, Syrah Suissasi 2011

Drinking Window 2017-2026

A rich, voluptuous wine, the 2011 Syrah Suisassi is very much about fruit and texture at this stage. It will be interesting to see if more varietal notes develop in bottle. With air, hints of aromatics begin to emerge, but only reluctantly. In this vintage, D'Attoma and Celli used a small amount of whole clusters. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how the 2011 develops. The explosive finish bodes well for the future, but today, the 2011 is a bit raw.

Duemani, Altrovino 2012

Drinking Window 2015-2024

Duemani's 2012 Altrovino, a Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend, is endowed with striking purity and nuance to match its vibrant fruit. Dark red cherries, plums, new leather and cloves all take shape in the glass. Deceptively medium in body, the 2012 stands out for its overall balance and exuberance. Although it was just bottled, the 2012 is already super expressive and beautiful.

Duemani, Cifra 2012

The 2012 Cifra is beautifully layered in the glass. Bright red stone fruits, wild flowers, sweet herbs and mint are some of the many notes that blossom in this delicious, super-expressive 100% Cabernet Franc. The 2012 was done entirely in cement, which seems to have preserved a considerable amount of energy and tension. This is a gorgeous entry-level offering.
