Biodyamic vintner Luca D'Attoma brings us this limited production Grenache, fermeneted and aged in Tuscan clay amphorae. This is a courageous wine to make with extended skin macerations lasting up to five months with stems. Grapes come from a site on the Tuscan Coast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.

... Only one estate in this J&B fine line-up, DueMani, produces wines from international varieties, in this case Cabernet Franc and Syrah. DueMani is run strictly along biodynamic lines by oenologist Luca d’Attoma and his wife Elena Celli. While tasting the wines I was wondering if it was a root day, because several of the wines poured by Elena seemed a little oaky and quite different from the elegant, energetic wines I tasted during a visit at their estate recently. Whatever the reason, their Cabernet Franc, at least on fruit days, is a textbook example of how a grape variety as recognizable as Cabernet Franc can become a real vehicle for origin, with such balance and energy that it draws your attention away from its mere varietal character.
